• Hi there.
I’m looking for something to help me categorize the pages in the menu on my wordpress site. I know that you can make a page parent to other pages, but there seems to be a few problems with that. First of all, I don’t want the categories to be pages in themselves. Let me illustrate:

Page category 1 (headline, not link)
    – Page
    – Page

Page category 2 (headline, not link)
    – Page

    Can this be done?
(Sorry if this is something simple. The whole WordPress thing is completely new to me)

  • I am afraid it cannot be done with WP out of the box.
    Pages do not have categories.
Using the proper template tag would list ALL the Pages in one place/list.

Are you talking about Pages or post pages? Those can easily be categorized in your sidebar. See Customizing Your Sidebar, but Pages, with a capital P, cannot be categorized.

I was talking about Pages. Too bad. Then I guess wordpress isn’t for me.

I’m just curious – if Pages can’t be categorized, then why, on the Write Page tab, does it say at the bottom:

That’s where I got the impression I could categorize them.

By default, Pages are not meant to be categorized, so you should not use any template tag that will display the category.

However, with the help of a plugin, it should be possible to categorize Pages.

Thanks. Do you know the name of a plugin that will do that? I’m using the setup that came with WordPress when I installed it, so the note I mentioned earlier is the default. That’s why I was confused.

Such plugin doesn’t exist yet, as far as I know.
