Greetings, the categories and tags associated with my post are removed when switching to another post type. However when switching back to the original post type, the categories and tags reappear.

It’s hard for me to believe this is ‘as designed’ so I’m thinking my database might be corrupt or something non-plugin related.

Can you confirm that categories and tags should or should not be saved with the post when switching?

    Many thanks!

They’re not actually “wiped out” like you say. The problem is that categories, tags, and custom taxonomies are only registered to certain types of posts. When you switch the post type, it loses that relationship. The connection to the post ID still remains, which is why when you change it back, the data not lost.

Not really a bug; more a consequence of the way WordPress works.

Going to mark this as resolved.
