• I just upgraded to 2.3, and I’m having problems with my category permalinks. Previously, my category base was defined as “/tag”, so i could go to http://www.petecarpenter.com/tag/topten and get a page containing all posts with that category. Now that native tagging has been introduced, I’m guessing that WP wants to use “/tag/” for, well, tags. Removing the custom base for the category permalinks allows me to use http://www.petecarpenter.com/category/topten, but I still want to use “/tag/” instead or at the very least redirect “/tag/” to “/category/” since I have many incoming links pointing to this. I don’t want to convert all of my categories to tags since there’s currently no tag management system in place. Can I do this with a .htaccess mod_rewrite?

I figured out a workaround for this problem. Under Permalink options, I kept the “Category base” as “/tag” and changed the “Tag base” to “/tags”. If I don’t redefine the tag base, it defaults to “/tag”, which will conflict with the redefined category base, even though no error is reported. Perhaps this error check need to be put in?

odd this work around “works” but it does. I was having the same problems. Corrected now. Thanks!
