• Strange one this. Done a search but found nothing.

I recently inherited a site that was 2.0 and upgraded bit by bit all the way up to 3.9.1 (I did this rather than wipe and start over, in order to preserve the user-base and their passwords).

No issues at all except one: category widgets (both thematic and third party) only show category headings when users are logged in.

    http://www.urban-center.org/online/uc-agora/

Nessuna categoria (Italian for ‘no category’).

When logged in, these show up.

I tried the Allow Categories plugin and gave public permissions to all categories, but this disabled all the pages! However I added ‘Category Post Widget’ to the front page and it successfully extracted ONE category (“News”, here: http://www.urban-center.org/online/), and this is visible to the public. However I need to be able to have more than one category visible in the other widget.

Any ideas how I can bring them back?

    Thanks!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
