Categories not showing up on the Write page (7 posts)

Since the 2.5.1 update I think (It worked on April 6 and didn't work on May 20), I can't set the category for new posts. The "All categories" tab underneath is blank. When I switch it to "Most Used", they all show up, but the changes don't stick: it won't let me set a category besides the default one, and the only way I can change it is to manually edit the SQL.

Any idea how I can get it to set categories again?

I've been having the same problem. With some experimenting I managed to get it to show "blogroll" but that is not one of my categories.

What I've done is reload the wp-admin/edit-form-advanced.php and wp-admin/includes/template.php from 2.50 and it works again with one minor problem.

I now see my categories but when I write a post and choose a category it will only save it as "What's New". After I write and save the post, if I go to Manage that post I can choose new categories and it will save the categories properly. So, to make it work I now have to complete two steps for each post (write and then manage) but it does work.... at least I haven't discovered yet that I've created any more problems with this fix.

Hmm, that seems like a bit of a pain. I am having the same problem, but can't find any solutions so far. If you find one, please let me know and I will post back here as well.

    Hi all,

Sorry to keep posting, but I have turned on debugging in WordPress and here is the error I get in the categories window on the write page (that aren't showing up).

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /Users/paulcollins/Sites/live/paulCollinsLondon/blog/wp-includes/classes.php on line 446

Notice: Undefined offset: 0 in /Users/paulcollins/Sites/live/paulCollinsLondon/blog/wp-includes/classes.php on line 467

Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$term_id in /Users/paulcollins/Sites/live/paulCollinsLondon/blog/wp-includes/classes.php on line 481

Does this mean anything to anyone out there? My PHP aint great!

    Would appreciate any help.

Hello to all who find this post in the future.

I think the problem is, you can't add the same category name twice in 2.5; even if it's a sub category. So if you're upgrading, that's probably why your categories aren't showing up.

    Hope that helps.

I have also upgraded WP today just because my old WP was allowing me to stay in the admin panel for not more than 1 mint. When ever I create any post the WP kicks me out of the admin panel and asks to login again n again. So for this reason I upgraded my WP. A lot of things were not working like adding a comment by visitor, I can't see categories on write post page. So, I think WP 2.5 is just a shit. I recommend not to use it.

If I get any solution I will share. Now where the fucking webmasters are. They always create things n never check them before publishing. Irritating developers. Huh!!!!!
