Categories Mistakenly "Assigned" to Pages -- Core Code Error? (1 post)

I am having an issue with the SIMILE Timeline Plugin that doesn't appear to be the plugin's fault. Something is going on similar to something I saw a while back with a different plugin. I think there is an error of some kind of the WordPress core code.

What happens is that the Timeline is supposed to pull only Posts from particular Categories that you select. When I select a particular Category, though, I get not only the Posts, I also get some Pages. Which makes no sense, because Pages don't *have* Categories.

It looks like whatever Category is selected under Settings as the Default Posts Category is somehow get assigned to new Pages that are created, even though there is nowhere to select/edit/modify/delete this information. But in the guts of the database, WordPress thinks that this Pages are part of the Category along with the Category's Posts -- and then the plugin pulls that Category, and the Pages come along for the ride.

Yes, the plugin could perhaps be modified to exclude Pages, but should it have to? Shouldn't WordPress refrain from adding incorrect, inapplicable information to the database? Is this something that can be fixed?

Is this bug worth reporting via Trac?
