I would like to start a completetely "static" web using wordpress. So i do not need Posts, but only Pages. The problem is, that i need also categories, but the Pages are not categorised. Is there any way (plugin/hack) how to categorise Pages?

P.S.: is there any way how to turn off adding posts and posts admin in the Admin?

You can't use categories on pages, but depending on the plugin, you could use a tags plugin to tag them. That might accomplish what you want.

Also, you may want to consider the parent/child relationship of the Pages.
I too manage a few sites that are "static" (= not blog at all!) and I find the combination of posts (with custom layout and template files) and Pages makes a terrific tool to organize the site's content. Never needed the categories for Pages.
What is that a Page with category coould do but a posts cannot? Can you give us an example? (just curious)

That's easy, i use posts for smthg different (products).
Parrent/child is fine, and will be the sollution, but i would prefer to have possibility to offer "similar pages", so the pages with the maximum number of common categories. The tags are fine, but the problem is, that you can type whatever you want, and for my use, i would prefer to select from preselected tags.
