Categories exist in db but don't show up in admin (7 posts)

    Hi there,

I've got a local copy of WordPress 2.9.1 running (using xampp) but it seems that any categories I create don't show up on the Posts > Categories page OR the Post page sidebar. The categories can still be found in the database, though.

Obviously I've checked in several browsers and installed another copy of WordPress 2.9.1 with a fresh db - same issue.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Help greatly appreciated.

    Amy

Did some research and found this:
    http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/10894

    And this:

But neither seem to be resolved even though marked as such. I'd like to point out that I've got no plugins installed and the problem happens no matter which theme I use.

Please don't hit me for asking a silly question but do these categories have any posts in or are they empty? I thought the same thing was happening once with categories not appearing in my sidebar but then I realised it was because they didn't have any posts in them. 99.9999% sure you will have checked this but thought I'd better mention it.

Just had a bit of a play around and although the empty category explanation might account for them not appearing in the sidebar, they should still appear in wp-admin. Very odd indeed. I'll do some research on the matter.

Thanks for the help, Dan. It's a strange one! Categories display fine on the frontend - it's wp-admin that is cocking up... the database seems fine.

I haven't tested this on a different server and I recently updated to XAMPP 1.7.2a so maybe something to do with that? I'll play around some more.

Yeah, I use WAMP on Windows. Could you try MAMP for the mac?

I am having this same problem. Here's additional information: I first modified the name of some existing categories and those worked fine, displayed as expected. Then I delete some to consolidate items into fewer categories and now only two categores appear. I will not be trying it with any other categories in case it fails.
