   Hi all,
   I've been searching all around. Two blogs that I've recently updated have had the categories unlinked from the posts. The categories are still in the database but all posts are linked with post_category 0 (uncategorized).
   There is no way to edit all posts manually (one blog have over 1.700 posts).
   This all happened after updating to wordpress 2.8.4.

   I've tried:
   Deactivating all plugins
   Re-installing WP 2.8.4
   Uploading the database backup

   At the moment I'm going to try to downgrade to WP 2.8.3 just for the sake of it.

   Any ideas what could have happened? I'm desperate here, and spent the last two hours searching the web (only found old solutions to old problems).

   Tried downgrading it to WP 2.8.3, still nothing.

   Tried uploading an older database file (for some reason, my backup plugin stopped working 8 days ago - it should backup daily and send it to my mail) = WORKED.

   Upgraded to 2.8.4 = stopped working again (all posts uncategorized).

   Uploaded the older db file = WORKED.

   The only problem is that I've lost 8 days worth of posts for no reason. Any ideas on how this could happen?

   Update: on the other blog, I uploaded the same database again (for the third time) and for some reason, it worked. Makes no sense whatsoever. So the solution: just keep uploading the database until it works.

   I have had the same problem though it did not occur right after an upgrade to 2.8.4. It happened last night I think and I lost all categories and tags and blogroll and some other sidebar issues. No clue what happened and did not back up DB after upgrade though my host stores a backup for one week of activity. What a strange problem.

   I think I will follow your advice and have a back up sent to my email daily. My hosting service did not keep a copy of the DB for this week as they should since most everyone was on vacation! Great.

   A good idea and one I will begin.

   The same probleem

   My categories dissapeared.
