[resolved] Categories broke with update? (10 posts)

Went from 3.4 to 3.6 and although my by day, by week, by month all work just fine, by category doesn't seem to be recording (or at least displaying) data anymore?

View here: fistintheair.com - along the right hand side on every page (like a widget).

Any ideas? I skipped 3.5 because it broke the way I had it set up visually, but with 3.6 that issue seems to have been fixed. The only problem now is my sort by category is saying "Sorry no data so far"

    Thanks! Love the plugin anyway.

    Hi there,

I haven't changed anything in the category filter lately, so it should work. However, I must point out that WPP has been tested up to 3.5.2 - haven't had the time to try it under WordPress 3.6 yet so I can't really give you an solid answer at the moment.

Ah oops, when I said 3.4 to 3.6.. I meant 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 of the plugin.

Can you link me back to 2.3.4 so I can revert back and see if that fixes it?

    Thanks

I can also confirm that the categories in the widget are not working. In the backend it works well.

Filling in the category ID will cause 'Sorry. No data so far.'

    WP 3.6 & plugin 2.3.6

    Thanks

I tried going back but it still gave me the same "Sorry. No data so far." error. Any ideas on how to fix it on my end, I understand you may not update the plugin right away with the issue.

    Thanks

@mishaintheair unless you have a recent backup of your site, I see no easy way to go back. You could try downgrading WordPress to version 3.5.2, however I'm not sure it's that easy since there are changes to the database after each update - so it could get a bit messy if you don't know what you're doing.

I upgraded to WordPress 3.6 recently but haven't had the time to test the plugin. I'll let you know once I figure out what's wrong so you can help me during the tests.

@Hector, I do have a recent backup of the site. But long story short, it's an issue of how the plugin is working with the newest version of wordpress is that correct? I tried downgrading the plugin and it didn't work.

Also are you assuming the content has been cleared from the database regarding category information?

Yes, chances are that something has changed in WordPress 3.6 that broke the category filter functionality - that, or I messed up something on one of the latest updates (I don't use the feature myself actually). Either way, I need to check what's going on. Hopefully, it should be an easy fix.

    Hey guys,

A quick heads up: indeed, I messed up on one of the last updates. I didn't noticed it before since the problem happens only when you include and exclude categories at the same time (eg. 13,-5). The filter works fine if you're only either including or excluding, but not both at the same time. So, my apologies for that.

Fortunately, it's was a quick fix and WordPress Popular Posts 2.3.7 is already available for download, so upgrade and please let me know if you find any further issues.
