Categories and Search Engines (1 post)

I know there has always been a debate as to whether to allow your categories to be index by the search engines or not. I currently have my categories set to no-follow because I am worried about the duplicate content issue.

The problem is, my categories are based on very valuable keywords which I want to rank high for. My posts are relatively small, so I want to use my small posts to help boost the rank of my categories.

My categories are displaying a portion of my posts using the_content and the more tag just like on my homepage. I was wondering if there was a way to filter the number of words displayed for each post under the category without effecting the number on the homepage.

I was planning on creating seperate category templates for each of my categories, writing unique keyword focused content for each of those and then displaying a smaller portion of the posts underneath.

I know how to setup the different category php files... just not sure how to filter the post excerpt length just on the categories.

Does what I am trying to do make sense??

    Thanks in advance.
