[resolved] categories and keywords dissappeared (25 posts)

I went into my blog and found that my keywords and categories have disappeared suddenly. The categories still show in the 'most used' but not in the all categories. They also are not on the category page.

Post tags are showing in cloud though.

I have gone to permalinks and changed it to default, saved it and then set it back to what it was before hoping that would help. I also tried to set them again in a post but it doesn't work.

I recently added Social Bookmarks so I decactivated that but still nothing.

    Can someone help?

I am trying to solve this by myself but getting nowhere. I tried changing themes back to classic but still no categories showing.

I also tried to add one in categories but it says it exists.

What else can I do. I have also gone through the plugins and deactivated them one by one but still no luck.

    Can someone please help me.

I have only looked at the default classic but not actually changed it and NO they don't show. I am at my wits end trying to think of what it could be.

Just to be sure, you activated the Default theme (not the Classic theme), checked your blog, and still saw no categories?

Access you WordPress database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in their control panel), check all of the tables, and choose "Repair tables" from the pull-down menu.

Can you share a link to the blog? It might help us investigate.

Hi manmanx I can its http://www.paulineharding.com

I have also found out that the server had an outage aand issues with MYSQL, HTTP and FTP and they had to reboot the server and do a deep file system check.

I didnt realize that the categories had disappeared on my other blogs as well or maybe that happened after the reboot finished as that happened after I last wrote here 17 hours ago.

Well that is puzzling. Try repairing the tables one more time. Access you WordPress database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in their control panel), check all of the tables, and choose "Repair tables" from the pull-down menu.

Do the categories appear correctly in your admin panel?

I am not sure what you mean when you say do the categories appear correctly in your admin panel? You mean the WordPress one? No categories are listed there but they are there, as when I try to add one that should be there it tells me I already had it.

I looked into my posts & taxomony and there are entries of categories in there. I will just go and repair the tables again though and see what happens. Still all showing uncategorized and no tags.

Hey macmanx do you sleep? You are always here or maybe just in my time zone.

I sleep, but I think we're in a similar timezone.

I hope the repair works this time, because it's sounding rather bleak at this point. If you go to Posts/Categories and don't see any categories, yet you can't add one because it tells you that it already exists, the database may be damaged beyond repair. Possibly related to the outage that happened earlier.

Do you have a recent backup that you can restore from? If not, maybe your hosting provider has one for your account?

OH no, well yes the post/categories don't show but I cant them either. When I try and add them by editing a post it still doesn't add any as well, as still shows uncategorized.

The blog I gave you is new so not many posts.

The others though are established and two have 60 posts but I do have an old database backup for those. I will just have to save my posts since before I do anything with those.

Have you tried asking your hosting provider if they have a backup? Most hosting providers usually make weekly backups of all the accounts.

Macanx I contacted the hosting provider who fixed the problem.
They said it was a server side issue which they had to fix.

I thought I might just close this issue and I hope it helps some of the others with the same problem.

    pharding, you're welcome!

rockr, it sounds like it's a server-side issue, so you should probably contact your hosting provider.
