Since I updated to 2.8.4 my categories have disappeared.
They still exist, mind you, in the dashboard. And they still exist as hardlinks. But they no longer appear in the sidebar, and I'm not sure what could have changed. And they were there prior to the upgrade, and no change was made to the sidebar file... or any file for that matter.

are you using the categories widget and it's not getting your categories?
Or is that something coded into your theme?

It's coded into the theme... I think...
there's a sidebar.php file at least, and it is referred to in the stylesheet

well...as a possibly simple fix, go to appearance/widgets and add the categories widget maybe?
