Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me, this has been driving me crazy.

I am low / medium in the tech skills for this kind of thing so bear with me please. I have previously installed 2 other wordpress websites which I have not had these problems with.

My website is http://www.barkingfsc.com, when i try to view the wp-admin page i get a 403 - forbidden access is denied error.
I can view the wp-admin page if i go to http://www.barkingfsc.com/wp-admin/index.php but the site is not viewable from the homepage or the view site button within the dashboard.
The only way I can view the site is if i go to http://www.barkingfsc.com/index.php

I have looked at many help posts to try and fix this problem and as suggested I have deleted the whole site and re-downloaded and installed and the problem has still occurred.
As it is a new install it has no plugins or themes which could be causing the problem.
I have also tried adding .htaccess file as one post suggested which also hasn't helped.

If anyone can help I will be eternally grateful.

    Thanks
    Sarah

Your problem seems to be that your hosting package is not set up to look for index.php files whenever you don't specify a file for a folder, as in http://www.barkingfsc.com/wp-admin

Looking at your hosting, I can see that it is at 1&1 UK, but I cannot determine if you have the Microsoft Windows or Linux hosting. From what doc. they provide in their FAQs, it appears that index.php works in Linux but not Microsoft Windows hosting. If you are using Microsoft Windows hosting, you can ask 1&1 support people to help you get index.php working, or dig around in their documentation for a solution.

In my experience, Linux is a much better choice for hosting WordPress, so you may seriously want to consider switching hosting to Linux. Either at 1&1 or elsewhere.

Just stumbled on to the 1&1 FAQ page of interest to Windows hosting:
