• Hello, about two weeks ago I started having problem uploading photos. I get an http error. This shows in the error log:

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library ‘/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20100525/suhosin.so’ – /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20100525/suhosin.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

Eventually, the photo would appear but without any sizes or deimensions. also when I go to edit the photo, I receive this message:
image data does not exist. Please re-upload the image.

I contacted my host and he has been wonderful in trying to help. I forwarded some suggestions I found in other threads and he has removed all mention of suhosin from the php.ini file, he’s rebuilt Apache with the latest stable version of PHP but I am still getting the error. After providing him my login details he has not been able to find out what is causing this error. I updated to the latest version of wordpress 3.61 (I think0 to see if that would solve it but it still persists. Mind you, I’ve had no problems uploading photos as recently as 9/13( my last successful image upload. Tried on Oct 2 and received errors) I have disabled all plugins, switched to twentyeleven theme. tried some of the alterations to htaccess file and nothing seems to work, I am still unable to upload photo. My hosting company suggested I seek help here as he cannot figure out what is causing this. Any help can be appreciated.

    Thanks

but my host says suhosin isn’t installed.

    have you tried:
-deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try deactivating via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. If applicible, also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder. The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old.
    – To rule out any theme-specific issue, try switching to the unedited default theme for a moment using the WP dashboard. If you don’t have access to your admin area, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.
resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).
    – If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue, try manually re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!

I have deactivated all plugins and switched themes before I made initial post.. problem existed with all plugins deactivated as well as twenty eleven theme. I updated to the latest version of wordpress hoping that might fix the problem but it hasn’t even though I had no problems with the previos wordpress version until a few weeks ago. I added the fixes that sometimes worked for others to htaccess with no luck. I am really at a loss. As nothing seems to work and believe me I combed through this support forum and tried everything( even sending the fixes that other hosts made to correct the issue to y hosting company and they haven’t worked for him. I gave him( the guy who runs my hosting company) admin access to my wordpress site and he has had no luck either. I’ve done all this before I made my initial post at the urging of my host.

    – Check that anti-hotlinking of images isn’t enabled in your hosting account. If it is, try disabling it.
    – Check your uploads path in Dashboard, Settings, Media, Store uploads in this folder . . . normally this would be blank.
    – Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766.
If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777.

Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK

Nothing works. I am so frustrated!

i’ve changed permissions and nothing..Also, there is store uploads in this option in settings media. I think they did away with that option in wp 3.5. Now there is only the option to organize photos into month and year storage. My upload path is wp-content/uploads as it should be.

Idowngraded back to wp 3.5 even though the problem started a few weeks ago with this version ( it was working fine up to that point).. still receiving error so I upgraded back to 3.6 and the problem still exists.

What errors are showing up on the server error logs?

    Thread Starter JadenBBB

    (@jadenbbb)

The funny thing is that there are no errors in the server log( the one I access through cpanel in my public html folder correct?) I also added a plugin to detect error in wordpress and that showed the error I posted initially about sunhosin but since my host removed it and rebuilt apache. there are absolutely no errors in either log.

Have you tried reinstalling WP manually – deleting files/folders before replacing them with new copies as per Tara’s post above?

(Be careful to not touch the wp-content and wp-config and .htaccess files).

    (@jadenbbb)

yes,I have. After I upgraded to 3.6… I manually re-installed wordpress 3.5. . I downloaded it from the wordpress site and uploaded it through ftp. that didn’t work so I used another copy of wordpress that I use for my local site that I’m running on mamp. I also have a second wordpress site that I have connected to the main site formatted as mainsite.com/secondsite/ and I am able to upload images to the second site just fine but I haven’t upgraded that version of wordpress it’s still using 3.4 something I believe.

when I resinstalled wordpress. I manually deleted the wp admin folders and wp include folders….everything else was replaced by rewriting them.

So you have not done a manual install of a NEW copy of the current version of WP?

    Is this a multisite install?

Are you aware that using an outdated version is a major security risk?

    Thread Starter JadenBBB

    (@jadenbbb)

Ok, I have manually rolled it back to wordpress 3.4.2 the same as my other wordpress installation and now I am able to upload photos with no problem as 3.5 and 3.6 gave me an http errors when I tried to uplaod a photo.. Guess I’m stuck in the dark ages with 3.4 but at least I can upload again.

    (@jadenbbb)

Initially when I upgraded to WP 3.6..I installed manually. Still not able to upload photos so I then used the upgrade button in the WP dashboard..still same problem. WP version 3.4 ( out of 3.6 and 3.5)is the only version that allows me to upload images again.

I wonder why this is? ALso I want to thank WPyogi andTara for taking the time to actually respond to y post and offer suggestions to help rectify my problem. If you have any idea why other versions of WP are not working for me don’t hesitate to share. Thanks again! Oh I’m really a novice at this. the things I know I learned from lookign it up online.;)
