Can't upload images after WordPress site move (12 posts)

I wonder if anyone can help. When I upload a new image (either through the media library or inserted into posts), all that appears is the image title and not the picture.

There is no error message and the file (or its name at least) is listed in the media library, so it's as if the upload was 'successful'. It's just that there is no image to see.

This problem occurred after my site went live on a remote server (the working version on my localhost uploads images without any problems).

I've been looking for a solution for hours now and nothing has come up.

Any help would be hugely appreciated - thanks in advance.

Check your uploads path in Settings->Media. It should be blank in most installs.

Thanks for the response Esmi. The uploads path is blank. It also seems that the file urls for the non-displaying images I upload are pointing to the right place, so the whole thing is pretty mysterious!

Have you checked via FTP that the images are being uploaded correctly?

This is where I reveal the limitations of my knowledge! Right now I'm just using the dashboard to upload these images 'live', straight from my hard drive onto the site. I have a whole bunch of existing images on my site which do display properly - these were the ones uploaded from my localhost onto the new server via FTP.

Please let me know if I'm completely missing the point of your question (and many apologies if I am!). I'm new to WordPress and the site upload/migration process wasn't handled by me.

That is the correct process but you need to check to see if these image files are being upload correctly to your wp-content/uploads folder. Your hosts may have a file management application that you can use for this if you don't want to use FTP.

Okay, I'll investigate this. Really appreciate the help so far!

Just checked FTP and the files I attempted to upload appear in the right folder (wp-content/uploads/2011/09).

Well, that's helpful. Next, can you post a link to a page where you have tried to insert one of these "missing" images?

You see the logos/links on the right just under the header? Where there should be a fourth logo on the end it just says 'bps'. I've uploaded and deleted a few other test images in posts too and the same thing has happened. This is also how it displays in the media library list.

Looks like a file/folder permissions issue. If you navigate to the image url, http://www.illicitproduction.co.uk/test/headsup/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/bps_2.png, you'll see an Access Denied message. Have you activated anti-hotlinking on your hosting account?

That's interesting... I use Namesco - I haven't knowingly activated any anti-hotlinking. Perhaps this is some default I can change. I'll check this out.
