• I cannot manage to get ANYTHING to upload into my my Media Library. I have tried the following:

    1. From the Dashboard, Media/New: I have tried both the Browser uploader (I have FF 3.52) and Flash Uploader (not sure what version I have). Using the Browser Uploader, the upload hangs and I get an incomplete page with the following address: “http://www.jumpinhumpy.net/wp/wp-admin/media-upload.php?inline=&upload-page-form=” With the Flash Uploader, the file will upload and “crunch,” yet nothing will appear in the Media Library nor, if I check the directory via FTP, does the file show up in the default directory for media uploads.
    2. My Miscellaneous settings have the upload path as “wp-content/uploads.” This was the default setting and I made no changes to this or any other setting on this page.
    3. As suggested in some posts here, I tried changing file permissions for the wp-content/uploads directory and the two subdirectories 2009 and 09, from “755” to “777.” This had no effect on my ability to upload photos from within WordPress (and as an additional problem, I can’t change the permissions back to their original settings for the wp-contents/upload directory, though I can for the two subs).
    4. I can upload files via FTP directly into the wp-contents/uploads/2009/09 directory; however, these files still do not appear in my media library.
    5. I have tried this with about six different files, all .jpg and all well under 1MB in size (350KB to 700KB).
    6. I can link to a photo but only if I use the full ftp address of the file, and I’m asked for my p/w each time I try to edit this page – I haven’t tried publishing this particular page but I assume the photo won’t load then either, without the p/w.

Any help appreciated. I spent five days just trying to install WordPress, and then the last week attempting to create just a single page with a bit of text and a photo on it – so far, absolutely nothing… Is creating a website really supposed to be this hard?

Ummmmmm… Thanks. I didn’t find anything that helped, but I appreciate the response.

I’m having the same problem, and I’m pretty sure I don’t have any plugin or theme issues…

When I try to add a new post and try to upload a picture along with it, I get what appears to be a successful upload, but I don’t get the chance to add any attributes, and the pictures I upload do not appear in the media library, although they are actually successfully uploaded into the uploads directory.

I don’t need a general troubleshooting guide either – I think there’s actually a problem that needs solving, I just don’t know how to solve it.

Any help would be a appreciated. I’m running on WP 2.9.2, and the latest (as of this writing) versions of Apache and MySQL on a Windows 2003 server.

I am having this same issue. It started halfway through the day on Monday. The images I’m uploading appear to be crunching but then they will not display and do not appear in the thumbnail. When I go to edit the images themselves, they are actually there but when I go to the URL where the image has been placed I get a 403 Access Denied error message. Any advice appreciated. All of the images I uploaded previously are working just fine.

I am also having this issue. I have even directly FTP’d images to my Media library folder. They still do not show up. I am fairly new to Word press, but I’ve used a lot of different CMS programs and such and it looks like uploading images and accessing them in your library should be fairly easy. Images that were previously there are fine and I can work with those, but nothing new can be added.

I, too, cannot upload photos to Media library. It worked just fine on 4/20/2010, but not today(4/25/2010) The only change I’ve made since 4/20, was upgrade the ‘Add-to-Share’ plug-in.
Previously uploaded photos are still in media library, and I am able to upload a photo from Media library into the post.
But getting a new photo into Media library is impossible.
    Thank you!

I also have the same problem. It says

Unable to create directory /var/www/vhosts/nepal-kathmandu.com/httpdocs/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Actually when i changed the wp-content to 777 permissions it worked.

My wp is hosted by Network Solutions. I just called them and explained the problem to a technician. He fixed the problem immediately. In layman’s terms, he explained that he gave ‘permission’ for the upload to go through. I tested it, and everything if OK.
