    I have no idea what the problem is but neither the plugin upgrade nor the WP upgrade will work. It seems to be a permissions problem but the permissions are set correctly and the hosting co have checked and csan’t figure out what is going on. I get this error msg:

    Upgrade Plugin

    Downloading update from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/google-sitemap-generator.3.1.9.zip.

    Unpacking the update.

    Warning: ftp_mkdir() [function.ftp-mkdir]: /home/creative/public_html/wp-content/upgrade: Permission denied in /home/creative/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-ftpext.php on line 240

    Could not create directory /home/creative/public_html/wp-content/upgrade

    It seems to be a problem with the FTP

  • /wp-content/upgrade
    chmod these folders 777
    do upgrade
    chmod back to 755
    should work from now on

    Hi Samboli,
    Yeah, all got sorted, thanks

    Bill

    I’m having the same problem upgrading to 2.8.6. I tried temporarily chmoding the folder to 777, but my ISP (hungerhost.com) is apparently set up to disallow that. Any other suggestions?

    My ISP solved the problem: there was a file ownership issue resulting from a move to a new server; they fixed it and the update went smoothly.
