can't update post from before 3.5 upgrade

    Posts that were made before I upgraded to 3.5 will create a 404 error when I just try to push the update button. Posts after the upgrade can be edited just fine.

    I went through the trouble shouting routine of deleting ALL plugins from the file system
    I deleted wp-admin & wp-includes and refreshed it with a new upload from the 3.5 zip file
    I removed all traces of W3TC total cache
    SCRIPT_DEBUG is true
    CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS is not set, but used to be
    .htaccess contains only wordpress entries and .net -> .com redirects
    The problem persists with twentyeleven

    I re-added akismet and had wordfence check my installation against their repository. No changes, nothing missing
