Can't turn of certain merge variables

    Howdy,

    I’m working with the Merge Variables and have run into some problems. When I was working with the subscribe box on the site there was only a box for email and a submit button which is what I wanted but when I would go to actually submit my email, it would tell me that a first name was required which shouldn’t have been the case, especially since there was no first name box. I went to merge variables to see what was up. First name wasn’t marked as required so I figured that I would just add the box and make it required to avoid some hassle. Well now first name, last name and gender are all required after just clicking first name to be included and I can’t turn any of them off as there is not an option to do so. I need some help turning off these boxes and making them not required because I would prefer to just have the email address required.

    Hey D-Vivid,

    Thanks for posting. It sounds like the “required” notifications you’re seeing are appearing after submitting to the form. This indicates that you’re likely being taken to the MailChimp-hosted version of your signup form, which sounds like you then might have some fields set to required on the MailChimp account side-of-things.

    To double-check these requirements, you’ll want to login to your MailChimp account, go to the Lists tab, then click on the cog/gear icon beside the list you’re connected to, and access your Forms.

    From there, make sure that the fields you mentioned are NOT set to required. If they are, un-check the required box. Once you’ve confirmed that no fields are set to required, log in to your WP-admin area, then go to Settings > MailChimp Setup and click the “update list” button at the top. This ensures everything is in sync and up-to-date. Now, try signing up again. You should not see any required messages when trying to submit.
