What posts box? Do you mean in your Admin Area? Have you tried using Posts -> Add New?
Esmi, I mean when someone goes to the blog page to post a comment.
Have you enabled commenting in Settings ->Discussion? And in each of the individual Posts?
esmi,
The box is checked to allow people to make comments. It's not just the comments, but if someone was to go to the blog page, there isn't a text box to make a post. May be you could view the page and you could see what I am saying.

Only logged-in users with the required privileges can publish Posts on your site.
I understand, and I tried a test with a different user name. It didn't work and it did previously.

All posting is done via the back end of your site. If you want front end posting, you will need to look for a suitable plugin.
esmi,
I don't understand. My blog used to have a text box where people could make a post and now it isn't there. Is there anyway to get it back?
If you had a front end editor previously, then it was via a plugin. So re-install the plugin. Or re-activate it if it is still installed.
I can find the plug ins, but what name am I looking for?
We don't know what plugin you were previously using! There are thousands of them.
I just installed word press and didn't do anything special. Today, I deleted the sample page by clicking on the sample page, I had copied the posts that where there and pasted them on the blog page. That is when the issue started. I really need some help due to my ignorance.
I had copied the posts that where there and pasted them on the blog page
Sorry? You don't copy posts to a blog page. WordPress automatically adds new posts to your main posts page. And there is no front-end editing capability in WordPress itself.
thanks I will delete the copied posts and see if that helps.
It looks like she is copying letters of thanks from comments and pasting them into a post. But it is all gone now.
I deleted the copied posts (btw,I had added them as new posts)and reposted my greeting, but I still don't see a text box. any ideas?
an added concern, when I click on reply, I am given the message that says "this is somewhat embarrassing isn't it? It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching, or one of the links below, can help.
Did you use your url in permalinks? If so you shouldn't.
http://www.drmarciaschmidt.com/blog/www.drmarciaschmidt.com#respond
is what you are getting.
I might have. I have question. where do I find the permalinks? Why did the blog page work before?
I found the permalinks
Under custom structure which is check it has my website url, but the other choices have my url as part of the permalink too. Some end with sample-post
this is the default http://www.drmarciaschmidt.com/blog/?p=123 (it is not checked)
what should the permalink be and how do I change them?
thanks, it looks like I will be having a difficult time fixing my issues.
How do delete word press?
I have never been so frustrated with a product in my 56 years of life. Word press should advise people that they will have to become skilled in codex. What a bummer. Great support...BTW, that's sarcasm for those of you who are unaware. Have a great life.
I have deleted word press form my server and will be using Google's blog. It is evidently made for non-programers and has support.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
Word Press is easy IF you know how to read.
