Can't see Pages after transfer blog from old server (6 posts)

    Hello,

I work for a small non-profit and we recently had a group of students design a WordPress-powered site for us.

They had it up and running on their server, and I recently tried to install it on ours.

The installation appeared to work, the wp-admin controls are all functioning. I was even able to backup their old database, and import it, changing the blog URL using MyPHPadmin.

Now I can see all the pages and posts in the administrative control panel, but I get 404 Not Found errors when I attempt to navigate to any of them.

When I click on a link on the new site (http://communitycyclingcenter.org.previewyoursite.com/) it comes up as http://communitycyclingcenter.org.previewyoursite.com/wp/whatever.

I imagine the /wp/ is a problem (that's the directory the old blog was housed in, but I the new one is installed at root), but even when if I pull it out of the URL, it still doesn't load.

I not sure where to begin troubleshooting - any pointers would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Gabe

Are the 2 uri's in admin pointing to the actual blog address?
    admin- Options -> General

If so, try updating your permalinks.

    Thanks for the thought samboll.

The two uri's are pointing to the actual blog address, and updating the permalinks doesn't help matters.

    Any other thoughts?

Does it work if you set the "default" permalink structure?

    Thanks moshu,

Unfortunately it doesn't work in any of the permalink settings. As I said in my first post, the links also have an erroneous 'wp/' prefix.

    This is the site: http://communitycyclingcenter.org.previewyoursite.com/

And when you click on the links it tries to send you to
    http://communitycyclingcenter.org.previewyoursite.com/wp/permalink...

Might that be part of the problem? The wp/ prefix is holdover from the installation on the other server that was installed in a directory called wp.

    Your help is really appreciated.

    best,
    GG

I doubt the Db has the right values for the home and site_url (the two URI values in Options)
Check it if you can: http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

and if the are correct - try again updating the default permalinks and leave it like that for us to see it!

Also, make sure no caching plugins, mechanisms are activated!
