I’ve been fiddling with my newest blogging endeavor and somehow managed to break it enough that I can’t fix it on my own. I can no longer publish new posts or pages using the “Add New” (post_new.php) link. Note that this WAS working at some point.

If I try to do this and hit the “Post” button… at first it does absolutely nothing. If I hit “Post” again, I get a 500 Server Error and the post that I was working on ends up getting saved as a Draft in WP.

If I then go back to WP and Edit that saved post/page draft — it publishes just fine. If I Quick Edit the post/page and select the status as “Published” — it publishes just fine.

WP Version: WP 2.8.1 (now.. just upgraded from 2.8 to see if it would help.. it didn’t)

    Plugins in use:
    Duplicate Sidebar Widgets 1.0
    Role Scoper 1.0.4.1
    Sidebar Login 2.2.4
    WP-Mail-SMTP 0.8.2
    WPG2 3.0.7

    Already tried:
Upgrading WP 2.8 to 2.8.1 (Deleted entire admin & includes directories & replaced everything) – No effect
Repairing the database tables via phpmyadmin – No effect
Removing database tables/entries from plugins no longer in use – No effect
Deactivating all plugins & trying a new post/page – No effect
Re-doing the CHMOD for /WP-Admin – No effect

I have a feeling it has something to do with either the Role Scoper plugin or the WPG2 plugin.

Any suggestions as to what to try next… short of starting over from scratch preferably…?

It’s okay.. I’m just an idiot.

I can get to my site directly via http://mysite.com

For some reason I had that verbatim in my General > Settings instead of typing in http://WWW.mysite.com and so WordPress was freaking out about it.

    Crisis averted.

    Bah… Okay, I lied. It’s still broken.

It let me make one new post with no problems after I changed the site URL in General> Settings…… and now it’s broken again.

    Already Tried… Continued:
Increasing PHP upload limit – Let me publish successfully once, then died. (Here is how to do that on GoDaddy hosting)

    • *Tried adding php.ini & php5.ini to Wp-Admin folder as well as to root directory of site – no change.

Creating writeable .htaccess file – No effect

New (or previously unnoticed) Error & Symptoms:
    Am now recieving this:

Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required for WordPress

And the inability to publish posts has apparently hit all of my blogs, not just the one that I’ve been using all these plugins on…

So… new possibility is that something screwed up with the host server’s libmySQL.dll

I will be emailing them about this to see if it’s on their end.

Now all of my sites and subdomains that use WordPress or any database driven content are dead and either giving me the MySQL error as above or the 500 Internal Server Error…. So I think it’s fairly safe to assume that the database host server is down.

I’ve submitted a support ticket with GoDaddy.

Well I don’t know what happened and I didn’t really feel like waiting for their answer because I know that beneath all of the problems is the fact that I was on a GoDaddy Windows host running IIS7 & PHP5…. so while it will run WordPress, it doesn’t do so very well.

I switched back to a Linux host, it works again.
