[resolved] Can't post at all or upload images (22 posts)

Hello, I've had a rather odd issue for some time now, starting about 3 updates back. Everytime that I or my other administrator try to post and click the "publish" or "save draft" buttons the page just refreshes and leads to the "edit posts" page. It shows the list of all the posts like i pressed the edit button on the left part of the screen. It does not add the post or save a draft of it.

And one more issue, for the same amount of time we have been unable to post images as well. We click the upload button and the bar shows up like it is uploading but after that nothing happens. Instead of the page that is supposed to allow me to insert the image into the post it just hangs. It doesnt even upload the image either because anytime i check the gallery it isn't there. This happens with both the browser uploader and the flash one.

We are using Yahoo Small Business for our websites. You can find the website here. It concerns me that the problem wasn't fixed with the new version of WordPress. When we started everything was fine, all up to about 3 updates ago. We always use the automatic upgrade for new upgrades, and I've tried reinstalling the upgrade via the automatic upgrade to no avail.

Also I found this topic, do you think this could be the problem?

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

i have tried deactivating and renaming the plugins folder, but not changing the theme to the default. I don't think it's theme related cuz it's in the admin panel, and the theme i have now has been there since we started the blog. Unless the update had something the theme was using that probably isn't it. I'll try resetting the plugins folder soon, until then can you offer more suggestions?

Ok, i tried resetting to the default theme too....no dice

I might try resetting the plugins via the php method, but i don't think that will do it...

    any other suggestions?

I first had problem uploading images in the newest version, then I changed the wp-content to 777. Now, it seems working and I can find the the image files in the root directory of wp-content. However, how can I configure the system whereby the upload files are saved in a sub-directory such as "upload" if I create one.

Sorry, I now know where the setting is. It is in the settings/miscellaneious. I created an sub-directory "upLoads" and set the upload path to this directory. I don't know why the "upLoads" was not there in the first place when the system quotes it as a default!
I also changed the mode to 777 in order to be able to upload files. I'm not sure if 777 is appropriate value but it works. Any advice?

The problem is not plugin related. I have just tested the php method of turning off plugins. I have already tested the folder method and changed the skin to see if that was it.

No fix yet. Any other suggestions for how I can fix this problem?

To correct what the main post says. I don't have 2.8.5 I have 2.8.6.

I have a semi-similar issue. I can upload and post just fine, but for some reason changes I make to my theme (either my personal one or the default one) aren't shown on the website until I switch themes and switch back. I too did the plugin deactivation and the theme switch, to no avail. Sounds like we may get told "this is a yahoo! problem." I'm sure if I ask Yahoo! (who I'm not happy with right now anyway) they will blame WordPress.

No i've narrowed it down to a php error. I've tested installing wordpress under another php database and it works fine. This means that i'm going to have to import our posts from the old wordpress database and install them in a new one, which means more-or-less reinstalling from scratch, and changing the database to the new one inside my blog once all posts are counted for and all....

It's gonna be a bitch but it's gotta be done...

Ok, I fixed it. Had to export the posts for each user individually via WordPress. Then install a new one over the old blog (not before backing up though) and then import the posts for each person while being logged in (I found that setting "import as existing user" made no difference, you have to be logged in with that user in order to import the posts as that user's post or else all the posts will be imported under one user's name). After that, everything worked. Blog is back up.

If possible perhaps you could sticky this or add this solution to the FAQ. If you need more info I can provide it.

I'm having a similar issue: The admin area for a new post or new page won't complete it's loading process. Browser status (Explorer, Chrome, Firefox) is eternally "Waiting for http://SelfEnterpriser.com/wp-admin/post-new.php..." version 2.8.6

Really hoping I don't need to install a new blog; I appreciate your sharing your experience, mddevelper_b (doncha hate it when someone comes back w/the reply: Oh, nevermind. I fixed it).

    Hey, nevermind. I fixed it.

Just joshin' (see above post). Tho, at least for now, seems like the problem is solved. I De-Activated the following PlugIn:

[WPINC Prototype] Installs the Prototype and Scriptaculous JavaScript libraries included with WordPress.

I don't remember why I put that on there in the first place; oh, I think I was in search of a character counter for limited posts (which I never found). Anyhow, I unchecked that puppy and all seems to be hunky-dory (whatever that means).

Thanks for those who suggested deactivating plugins.

I read both of those posts straight so at first I thought you were serious lol.

But yea, hopefully they will add this issue to the FAQ. I think the error popped up from a failure in an update that might have corrupted either the post tables or something like that. Anyway, since it's fixed I'm all ok.

If you have to reinstall, make sure to rename your old database and blog, and to completely start over with the blog, but export your posts per user. (pending that you have more than one poster) I noticed that comment subscribers would not come over so you will have to tell them to re-subscribe sadly. I also found that if you name the new database the same thing as the previous database all rss feeds and everything work just fine. They'll automatically update.

Hi! When I tried to add image to my blog post, after I clicked the small icon (ver 2.9) next to 'Upload/ insert', it just shows a bar with moving strip' but then hang there 'forever'.

Had tried another word press for adding image and it works fine (I mean it follows the same outcome line what this link had explained, Note: has no relation to this link, but it has clear illustration)
    http://www.bokkom.co.za/how-to-ad-a-post-and-image-to-the-blog/

Can anyone advise what could be the problem and how to solve?

    Tks.
