• I was just prompted by wordpress to upgrade to the latest version. So, I went ahead and did so. Immediately there were problems. I can on longer get into the administrator panel to make edits. Here is the message that I get every time.
    Safari can’t open the page.
Too many redirects occurred trying to open “http://peainthepodfitness.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2Fupgrade.php%3F_wp_http_referer%3D%252Fwp-admin%252Fupgrade.php%253F_wp_http_referer%253D%25252Fwp-admin%25252Fupgrade.php%25253F_wp_http_referer%25253D%2525252Fwp-admin%2525252Fupgrade.php%2525253F_wp_http_referer%2525253D%252525252Fwp-admin%252525252Fupgrade.php%252525253F_wp_http_referer%252525253D%25252525252Fwp-admin%25252525252Fupgrade.php%25252525253F_wp_http_referer%25252525253D%2525252525252Fwp-admin%2525252525252Fupgrade.php%2525252525253F_wp_http_referer%2525252525253D%252525252525252Fwp-admin%252525252525252Fupgrade.php%252525252525253F_wp_http_referer%252525252525253D%25252525252525252Fwp-admin%25252525252525252Fupgrade.php%25252525252525253F_wp_http_referer%25252525252525253D%2525252525252525252Fwp-admin%2525252525252525252Fupgrade.php%2525252525252525253F_wp_http_referer%2525252525252525253D%252525252525252525252Fwp-admin%252525252525252525252Fupgrade.php%252525252525252525253F_wp_http_referer%252525252525252525253D%25252525252525252525252Fwp-admin%25252525252525252525252Fupgrade.php%25252525252525252525253F_wp_http_referer%25252525252525252525253D%2525252525252525252525252Fwp-admin%2525252525252525252525252Fupgrade.php%2525252525252525252525253F_wp_http_referer%2525252525252525252525253D%252525252525252525252525252Fwp-admin%252525252525252525252525252Fupgrade.php%252525252525252525252525253F_wp_http_referer%252525252525252525252525253D%25252525252525252525252525252Fwp-admin%25252525252525252525252525252F”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page.

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

i m getting fatal problem while using administration panel to edit my site

nitingupta, follow esmi’s suggestions in the previous reply. If they don’t work for you, please start your own topic.

    i have tried both suggestions:
    1. renaming the plugins folder and creating an empty plugins folder via the web hosts file management applet, the infinite redirect error still happened.
    2. renaming current theme (attempting to switch to default theme?) just made the site come up blank.

do you have any other suggestions? i need to edit my page and am not able to since this “upgrade” was forced on me.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of the /wp-admin/ and /wp-includes/ directories with fresh copies from the download.

replaced these 2 directories from a fresh download as you said, still exact same problem. fyi the link to administrator login on my page points to domain/wp-admin and once clicked constantly redirects to wp-admin/upgrade.php even after replacing with new downloaded copies, and the file timestamps confirm.

Do you have any .htaccess files in your site?

    Thread Starter runin4myself

    (@runin4myself)

there is a .htaccess file at the web root. in case you were going to say rename it, i renamed it to .htaccess.old and was still unable to log onto the admin link, so i’ve changed it back.

HELP! I recently had to reassociate my SQL files once a hosting was deleted from the server. all i had from the previous site was the sql data. I reinstalled, restored the sql and redirected the strings to where they should go and now i have basic data but no site. here is what i look like now…www.smartisthenewcool.org…its just data and when you click on anything it goes to internet oblivion. I tried to login to the admin via wp-admin and i get the same, server not found, page. this site is affiliated to my nonprofit and i desperately need to get this site back up and running…any suggestions?

spndoctr please make your own post, as that is not on topic of this thread.thanks.

Have you spoken to your hosts at all?

    (@runin4myself)

I don’t understand how they would have anything to do with a wordpress upgrade failing??? If you have something specific in mind please tell me but this is a wordpress upgrade problem.

    HELP, PLEASE!

Having the same problem getting to admin page after upgrading WP.

Tried the suggested fix: rename the plugins directory, create an empty plugins directory from my Bluehost site. No success.

I’m not skilled at this, and I have trouble even finding files and directories… Could anybody help me?

    thanks

@sanda33: Keep your plugins folder renamed and also switch your theme to the twentyten theme. See: http://wordpress.shadowlantern.com/2009/11/change-wordpress-theme-in-phpmyadmin/

Would I be able to bring my site back the the theme I have? I paid $$ to use headway, and hundreds of hours to design my site.

    What is the twentyten theme?

If I follow the steps in the link, how do I restore it to my original Headway?

    thanks
