• I have a problem with my home page, I can’t get it to show a static page.

I did rename it at one point, but got into the database with PHPAdmin and fixed all the titles, so I know that is not the problem. I have created many different page files, all have the same problem if I want to set them as a static page for my home page.

I have tried many things, including the wordpress codex suggestions for setting up a static page (with a blank page for blog posts), but nothing is working. All that happens is an error page shows up saying “this page has a redirect loop”.

I removed the home page from the menu but still no luck.

I was not able to follow the codex suggestion on how to fix this in a php template file – I checked every php file and could not find any hard links for menu items.

My website is not live, so I can’t post a URL to show anyone. I can preview the page I want as my home page from within the page edit screen in WP, but I cannot directly call up the page in my browser.

I’m really frustrated since the theme developer’s website is down. I’ve been trying to figure this out for about 2 days now, so would appreciate anyone’s help with this.

    Thanks for your help,
    Susan

  • Sorry Susan. Given your conditions it is almost impossible to help you. We can’t see the wp generated html and we don’t know what theme you are using.

The codex for setting up a static page is correct in the way to do it.

Check your htacess file and make sure there ar no redirects there. Try switching to the default theme.

    Hi kmessinger,

I am using the Synapse theme from Simple Themes, with WooCommerce, and I am using the child Synapse theme.

When I looked at this last night on my iPad, I could see that the server wanted to go to http://www.example.com/static page and then went to http://www.example.com and then kept cycling through this, eventually coming up with the error message “This page has a redirect loop”. That’s when I got into the database to get rid of the old pages that I thought had been deleted.

I will have a look at my htaccess file, thank you.

I will have to look at the htaccess file in the WP directory I’m working from, it’s got a lot in it. thanks.

It has a lot of rewrites for WP Supercache, but I am not using WP Supercache at the moment. I am using Cloudflare at the moment.

Could I just comment out all the rewrites related to Supercache?
When I last checked, the cache had been cleared and there were no files in the folder.

    Comment out or delete entirely.

I have deactivated the Supercache plugin (it wasn’t on) and deleted the Supercache commands in my htaccess file.

Now if I set the READING SETTINGS to front page TEST and posts page BLANK, I get a search box saying the file (test) can’t be found.

So, I tried to just set front page TEST and nothing to posts page, and I get this:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home2/myhost/public_html/mydomain/wp-includes/post.php on line 3561

    Am I getting any closer?

EDIT – this isn’t working anymore either – I am able to show recent posts (the alternative to static page) but that’s not what I want.

I will put $50 in the PayPal account of anyone who can help me solve this problem before 12:00 midnight Aug 26th 2013. I have spent way more than that tearing my hair out trying to do it myself.
