Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I just tried to login to my site and got this error message, I also get the same error when I try to go to the site.
Cannot open file (/hermes/web07/b696/pow.victoriah/htdocs/wp-content/backup/.htaccess)
I"ve located my htaccess file thorugh my host file manager and FTP. Can I just delete this file, will it have any detrimental effect on my site?
Rename it to something else (just in case).

what would you suggest the rename be please?
Doesn't really matter I guess, rename it to htaccess.txt or something.

I really need some help with this. This file looks like it's not part of my blog at all. I've looked for this file and the file path is another site altogether. Does anyone have any expertise in this please.

If I do this and it fixes, does this mean it's likely one of the plugins causing the problem?

OK, that worked, so now I guess it's a matter of activating them again one by one and seeing which one is the porblem, yes?
Yep - that's how it's done.

Thanks so much, I've just reactivated all the main ones and all seems to be OK. It's interesting though, I have the same plugins on 2 other wordpress blogs and didn't have this problem. We'll see how it goes, thanks again for your great advice.
