Support » Fixing WordPress » can't login, am asked to reinstall

  • Hello,

I have a staging site living on my domain where I was trying to create a new wordpress website. It’s nearly done. however, all of a sudden I got to the staging site below:

    http://www.golifecoaching.com.au/xyz

and I am asked to go through the 5 min installation??? The folder still exists in the back end, wordpress is already installed. I tried to rename the folder, but the issue persists.

I have no idea how to solve this issue. Can anyone offer some invaluable advice?

  • That’s because the WordPress installed at /xyz isn’t installed. I take it you have WordPress installed somewhere else? (You didn’t make this clear.)

    Maybe this will help?

Thanks for your response. But when I look in the xyz folder, all the wordpress files are there? So I am confused as to why it would say wordpress is not installed.

Simply uploading the files to a folder does not install WordPress.

WordPress depends on a MySQL database (along with a MySQL host, user, and password), and installing WordPress means setting up that particular set of WordPress files to work with that particular MySQL database.

Sorry, a misunderstanding. I installed wordpress succesfully via Fantastico in a c-panel. I worked successfully on the site to get it ready for launch and now it seems broken. I can’t login anymore and the /xyz url tells me WP is not installed, even though the folder still exists in the back-end and still has all the WP files in it.

I am just not sure how it got broken and what exactly to try and fix to solve the issue.
