[resolved] Can't login after upgrade (7 posts)

I have several wordpress blogs hosted at bluehost. Some of them were hacked and bluehost, quite correctly, has given us 7 days to upgrade to 2.6.5 or they'll shut them down.

    I'm having problems upgrading!

Actually, the upgrade seems to have gone fine, I can see the blog but I can't login, not even to run wp-admin/upgrade.php, when I go there, it asks me to login, I do, and some URLs flash by in the address bar, then I'm back on the login page again.

I tried just logging in, just in case the upgrade worked, nope. I can't. It isn't a forgotten password issue. If I put a "bad" password in, I get the password incorrect screen. And I even tried resetting the password, the reset worked, but I still can't login.

I was upgrading this one site from 2.1.3 I think. Is there another step I need to do?

    Thank you so much.

Have you ran the upgrade script? See step 2 at Upgrading_WordPress.

Have you cleared your browser cache and cookies?

That's where I'm failing. I trying to run the upgrade script. I really didn't want to clear out my cache and cookies, so I used a different browser on two different machines, couldn't login on any of them. I get the login screen, I put the info in, and then I get the login screen again.

I'm reinfected again, sigh. I'll try again...

Just had the same problem. I'll try upgrading as well and then see how it goes. I even requested a new password and still can't get in.

Just downloaded the code again (just in case) and upgraded the site. It told me my database was up to date and didn't need upgrading. I then attempted to login and I am just redirected back to the login screen with a red box saying please login again.

See this post for a fix:
Seems to be a Safari cookie problem

Yes, that last link did the trick!

I did not want to clear my cookies however!

So after following the directions on upgrading exactly, I then made one further change. When I went to do the upgrade.php part I created a new user on my Macintosh, logged in as that user, then went to Safari and did the upgrade.

That way I could have a cookie-free environment.

And yes, it all worked well. Thanks all!
