I've been running WP fine for a month at http://www.haikusmackdown.com Tonight? I went to login? And when I entered my admin login and password, it just refreshes the login screen without either field entered. I know I'm typing it right - I have been for a month now. What could have happened?

    Go here:
    http://wordpress.org/support/3/7223
See the link in the post from rboren
Copy the entire file from the link.
Paste it into Notepad, BBEDit, Wordpad - any plain text editor.
There must be *NO* whitespace of any sort either before the first < or after the last >
    Not even a carriage return.
    Save that as 'wp-login.php'
Upload that to your wp directory.
    Then login :)

I just went and re-did it again, deleted cookies and everything. Still no luck. I apologize for the last reply sounding rude, I am assuming it is completely user error :), but I have done all that I can find as a suggestion, to no avail. Any other ideas?

I've even gone and followed a few links suggesting I edited the vars file and what not. This login worked at THIS computer yesterday. I'm at home, nothing would have changed without me knowing. NONE of the "users" can login. Please someone help. Thanks podz for trying, if you think of anything else, let me know.

I'm having exactly the same problem, attempted the same fixes. Even double-checked my SQL database for errors. Any suggestions?

I had a friend look over the wp-login.php code and he said it looked fine! The page is trying to redirect me to the admin section, but with no luck. It is pulling from the database fine, but for some reason won't redirect! Any ideas??? I'm still stuck!

elmsblog: go to my site and send me an e-mail, and maybe we can track it down. Send me the relevant re-direct, if any in your htaccess, and your WP files and index page setting. For now my thought is that there is a problem with your index.php file in wp-admin. I would replace that with a new one and delete any cookies.

Did everyone finally get their login to work? I've not had any luck! I haven't changed anything, and then, bam! I couldn't login. I've tried everything in the other threads, and even re-installing some of the original files (like wp-login.php, index.php, etc.) with no luck.
When I login, my browser takes me to the above address (posted an Anon- sorry). Any ideas?????
    I'm not familar with htaccess.

I just downloaded WordPress and I'm experimenting with a new installation.
I discovered that if the blogaddress is changed, that's when I cannot log in.
    Here's the specifics:
If WordPress is installed in: http://www.example.com/wp, and the blogaddress is: http://www.example.com/wp, everything is fine.
But if I change the blogaddress to: http://www.example.com/blog. Logout, and delete all cookies, I cannot log in. I tried all the steps suggested at http://wordpress.org/support/3/7091 to no avail. All I could do is delete the installation and start over.
After doing this a few times, I discovered that if I change the blogaddress and then click logout, instead of getting the Login screen (as when things are working normally), I get the Write screen. If I got back into the options and changes the blogaddress back to the same address that WordPress is in, then it works fine.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Just an update:
After a fresh install and FIRST performing step #3 at http://wordpress.org/support/3/7091 (before doing any other configurations) my problem has been solved.

For anyone else stopping by here, using a different directory for index.php does not always work when the installation directory and the blog directory are the same level. For example,
if the wordpress directory is http://example.com/wordpress and your index.php is at http://example.com/blog then things may not work properly.

But I can login with Opera and fail with FF 0.9 and IE 6
(Even when I clean-installed the new FF 0.9 it didnt work..)

Update: I just reinstalled the whole thing, and uploaded my customized wp-layout.css file. Now I have to re-install plug-ins. Just curious, for those of you who got 'locked out', what plug-ins did you have running? I'm trying to figure this out still so I don't have to worry about it again.
I had exhibit(b), and grins running.

Here is a wierd thing. It struck me right after I did a second WordPress install on the same db using the proper prefixes.

I found that the only way to "solve" the problem is placing both the blog and wordpress in the same directory. But it seems to me that it does not really solve the problem, but avoiding the problem....

    another update:
ok, now i don't know. Maybe it was luck, but now it's not working any more. I was able to get into options, and changed back my password, then did a test logout and haven't been able to login again after that. So i did #4 again, but haven't got it to work again. Not sure why, or what i did the one time that made it work.

miahz - I guess my only suggestion to you is to put WP and the blog in the same directory. It is the safest way. I have tried all the solutions suggested in the forum. None of them really solves the problem. I suspect there is a bug of the WP 1.2. It seems that no one has similar problem in previous versions. I hope WP1.3 will address the issue.

Add me to the list. :( :( :( I've been using WordPress for less than a week. Everything was fine - I was logging in and out several times a day and now I can't log in using any browser. I did not change anything and I know my login info is correct. How frustrating! Worse I'm not a PHP admin so I am not comfortable going in and fooling around with the files, lest I cause yet another problem! Maybe I should just switch to Moveable Type or another blogware. :(
When I login the screen just defaults back to the login screen.

Two months ago I already reported the problem with parallel installed directories for WP/Blog. Just back from a holiday I'm peeking into this forum again for the first time in four weeks. And what do I see? The same discussion about the same stupid login problem is still going on. Shouldn't this have been solved already by someone in the development team? It must be something very simple because all the alternative ways of installing WP and the weblog work fine. At home I'm getting used to never logging out (because when I change the blogurl back to the one of WP I can login OK, but the proper stylesheet is not found), but when I want to make an adjustment to my site from another computer somewhere I DO want to be able to logout!!!
Come on! All kinds of things are solved or improved. So why not this loginproblem with parallel directories (IE5 or 6, Mozilla).
