   i have had this wordpress blog for YEARS... and i even upgraded it a while ago. i was also hacked with the redirecting scripts hack.. about two weeks ago.. and i cleaned it up.. then changed my password.

   so going to log in today, and wordpress tells me my password is incorrect. giving it the benefit of the doubt, even though i KNOW what i set that password to, i tried doing a "lost password" recovery/reset. i enter my email address and i get "ERROR: Invalid username or e-mail."

   i enter the username (admin) and get "ERROR: Invalid username or e-mail."

   i googled a bit and followed some articles on how to reset the password using phpmMyAdmin

   no luck

   disabled plugins by renaming my plugins folder

   same issue.

   what's going on here?!

   i've even tried adding another user just using phpMyAdmin. that username (and email) is ALSO not recognized by wordpress admin.

   nevermind. turns out the admin user was somehow deleted from the wp_users table... (yet was still in an old, out of date, table)

   instead of attempting to merge/import these users, i just opted for using this php script to create an admin user on the tables:
