   I'm trying to build some links internally in the post text or link out to other sites on relevant text to make the site more useful.

   However when I create a link it simply adds the link I create onto the post URL thus sending me to my own 404 page.

   For example a link to Wikipedia from one post on my site would instead of linking to Wikipedia itself look like http://www.mydomain/my post/www.wikipedia.org

   Thus not doing anything useful. Does the same thing when linking internally.

   I'm sure this something simple. Thanks for the help.

   Are you putting http:// at the beginning of external links?
   Starting from root of site with a slash / when linking internally /another-page/

   Using plugin(s) that manipulate URLs?

   regenerating your permalinks may help

   start off by saving them to default

   test your site by making new links or whatever

   If that all works, save your permalinks back to custom
