Hi, I hope you can help me with my problem.

    1. I have three domains. 2 are add-on domains to my primary domain

    2. I installed wordpress to one of my add-on domains. I installed it to "www.addondomain.com" The installation was successful.

    3. I installed wordpress to my primary domain. Installation failed. It says: "Something went wrong with the installation. The application was not installed." No e-mail confirmation received.

    4. I tried adding a folder "www.primarydomain.com/folder" and installed it there. I got the same results as #3 but this time I got a confirmation e-mail. I went to "www.primarydomain.com/folder" but it say 404 Not Found.

Are you installing WordPress manually or using a 1-click installer? I'd suggest using the former if that's possible.
