You didn’t say if you put the DB name, username and host address in your wp-config.php and uploaded it. Did you?
Well, no, I thought that if the installation was asking for that I didn’t have to modify that file
Ok guys. Sorry for asking but I changed the wp-congig.php and uploaded to the server with all the data filled out and when I click summit it says
“The file ‘wp-config.php’ already exists. If you need to reset any of the configuration items in this file, please delete it first. You may try installing now”
When I click on the link “Try installing now” this is what comes out
“Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress.”
huh? FTP the wp-config.php to your server root or directory, in other words where you uploaded your WP2.6 files. FTP doesn’t talk/write back with “The file … aleady exists …..”
Run http://yourdomainname.com/wp-admin/install.php or
http://yourdomainname.com/foldername/wp-admin/install.php
and answer install questions and get and keep your admin username and password.
Assuming you put in the correct info in wp-config.php and set up your database and uploaded all your WP files, you should be done in 5 minutes or much less.
Thanks I have checked other posts and the reason I think is godaddy windows host. I did the move to linux but I have to wait for confirmation. I hope this work.
WordPress is known to run in both Linux and Windows servers. Still, good move to Linux, less issues. Having said that, do take the time to read the codex as whooami pointed out above, esp. detailed instructions. It will be worth the time.
