I'm having trouble even installing WP on my server. I am wanting to install WP in a sub directory so that I can leave my current website running untouched till I build the new WP one. I have created the sub directory and uploaded the files via FileZilla but the browser will not execute the install.php. I have tried a bunch of different variations of the path however all I get the "The page cannot be found" error. I've double checked that the files were in the right directory via FTP and even re uploaded them.

    Thanks for any help

Did you upload wordpress folder as is or did you upload content of wordpress folder in sub directory you created.

A 404 error does not mean the server would not execute the file. It means it did not find the file. Check your path to your WordPress installation.

Gov, I had originally tried uploading contents but after reading the install guide I uploaded the directory and it still didn't work.

Tim, yes I checked the path a number of times and tried variations (with .php, without .php, etc)

    Thanks

I've got 1and1 but my server is still windows, I called them about switching to linux but that has not happened yet, so most likely the issue will be resolved when we switch. I am holding off on switching for right now, since I have WP on the local machine I will just build it there first so transitions will hopefully go quicker and easier.

    Thanks for the help.
