Can't import database backup- Error #1044 (7 posts)

Tonight, I uninstalled wordpress 2.7.1 and installed 2.8. I backed up my database prior to doing so because I knew there would be issues.

I did the uninstall/install of WordPress through Godaddy, where I host. I also deleted my old database, thinking I could later upload the backup I made.

Well, I'm trying to upload the backup but keep getting this error:

    Error

    SQL query:

    --
    -- Database: chi0916207013427
    --
    CREATE DATABASE chi0916207013427 DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;

    MySQL said: Documentation
#1044 - Access denied for user 'chi0917004471373'@'%' to database 'chi0916207013427'

The new database that was created was the one ending in 373. I am trying to load the backup of DB 427.

Any ideas on if I can still upload the backup? I would like to restore all of my old work. I know this isn't really a WordPress specific issue, but I figured someone here might be able to help. I'm still a novice.

    Thanks for any help.

Tonight, I uninstalled wordpress 2.7.1 and installed 2.8.

Why did you do it this way (uninstall instead of update)? If auto-update is not an option, see:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended

If you are restoring a database backup, make sure that it is to the same version of WordPress, not to a newer version. Also, are your user/passwords the same as they were before?

I did it this way because when I tried the auto-update to 2.8 I got the white screen of death. Last time that happened, I did a uninstall and reinstall, loaded the backed up DB, and I was fine.

However, this time I am loading the DB to a new version of wordpress. Will that prevent me from restoring the prior DB?

The username for the old database and new database are different.

All I know is that the upgrade included a modification of the db. Not all upgrades include that. That being the case I am not surprised a 2.7.1 version db is not compatible with 2.8. You need someone who has a better understanding of mySQL than I do.

Yea, that does seem to be the problem. Am I SOL? Any possible way to restore the prior DB content?

Any possible way to restore the prior DB content?

Install 2.7.1 and restore. Then upgrade to 2.8. To get an older version, go here:

    Hopefully it will work.
