Can't get Plugin to Work

Please help. I’m downloaded this plugin because it seemed to have the best rating and was super simple to use for people who weren’t tech savvy, programmers or developers.
I downloaded the plugin and activated it. I’m trying to set up 301 redirects and they won’t work. I’ve tried typing in the complete URL or just the root folder. I tried clicking on the wildcard option and adding asterisks (though I don’t understand what that does) and nothing seems to work. It’s important I get this fixed asap, could someone please help me.
