[resolved] Can't get menus to work, all pages appear in menu linearly (4 posts)

    Hello,

I am new to WordPress and perhaps this is a stupid question.

I'm trying to get multi-level dropdown menus to work. It works fine with the default theme (Twenty Ten 1.1). It uses my self-defined menu with different nesting levels. One can define any number of menus on the admin page.

However, no downloaded theme I've tried so far appears to be able to make use of a self-defined menu, not even the most downloaded themes such as Atahualpa. When I use such themes, all my 20 pages appear in the menu horizontally. Needless to say, it looks silly. The admin page for menus says that the theme does not support the built-in menus. Strange.

What am I missing here? I would very much appreciate any help.

Aha, I now see that this self-defined menu thing is new to WordPress 3.0.1. OK, so maybe that's why themes don't understand this thing...

Maybe I'm getting there after all... Here it says Twenty Ten 1.1 supports this menu thing. And it also says how one should add menu support to themes that don't have it (but it seems rather complex). How come such big themes as Atahualpa don't support this? Seems strange that nobody has added support for this already.

OK, problem solved. Found a later version of Atahualpa (3.5.3) which supports in-built menus. Funny that the downloader within WordPress admin let me download an old version.
