while looking at the upgrade instructions it says to delete admin, etc. would a reinstall/upgrade be the thing to do...

i have already backed up db and files as of yesterday.

    hmmm,

i can't get in to deactivate the plugins so i can upgrade. can i pull them off the server via my ftp client and place them on my desktop? then once i upgrade i should be able to get back to admin where i can reinstall the plugins.

    ok,

i updated to v2.5.1 i can login but still can't get into admin = same 404 message. i tried a variety of paths in the browser window such as

    domain.com/blog/admin/severalfiles.php = 404

note: i removed all plugs and reinstalled two but can't activate.

now i am trying to figure out how to show my v2.5.1 default theme to see if that works. can anyone tell me how to have the default fire up.

oh, a new what looks like official wordpress page saying "database upgrade required" and a link saying "upgrade wordpress" i am a little afraid to hit the link at this point in time. any advice here?...

    garbage in garbage out =

bad info above. whenever i try domain.com/blog/wp-admin/severalfiles.php = i get the upgrade database, not a 404.

i also researched the upgrade database menu and now that i know what it means i will upgrade.

but there is a question on a codex instruction that is not clear to me. can this be explained a bit, said another way? =

" NOTE The wp-content folder requires special handling, as do the plugins and themes folders. You must copy over the contents of these folders, not the entire folder. Copying the entire folder overwrites all your customizations and added content. "
