I am redoing a blog for someone else, and I have only ftp access to the directory. I can't get a new custom theme to work properly and I'm trying to find the debug log and error log to see if there is any useful info there.
Where are they??

Every host is configured differently. You could open a supoort ticket with your host. Realize that any issues you have may not generate an error log so that may not help you.
Otherwise you might want to open a new topic on here with a description of your issue, a link to your website and the name of the theme.
