Hiii nancy cuyle, perhaps the problem is with your subscribe page and its slug cant be found out..
    Just follow this steps..

Activating the FOLLOW PLUGIN: 1. Installing and Activate Follow Plugin

Create a WordPress Page Called Subscribe THE URL ADDRESS OF THE PAGE MUST BE – “/subscribe”

Open the subscribe page (Editor) Click the ‘S2’ button on the QuickBar to automatically insert the Subscription Form.
and also dont forget to uncheck the Include this page in lists of pages(on right sidebar) go to WordPress DashBoard>>>>Pages>>>All Pages>>>Edit Subscribe Page(which you have created manually by inserting s2 button)>>>Uncheck the Show this page in navigation menu

more more help check this link: http://wordpress.org/plugins/follow/screenshots/

Go to Follow Plugin Menu (Listed Below the Settings Menu of WordPress) and then go to Settings>>Appearance and follow as written red letters.

Please let us know if you have any difficulty..

I’m sorry to be so slow. I’m really new at wordpress

I created a new page I titled Subscribe

I changed the permalink to http://www.malinowskiclan.com/subscribe/ – but I wasn’t sure if that’s what you meant

I clicked the S2 button and turned off the ‘list this page’

    Questions:
    1. Did I do the /subscribe right

    2. Do I click S2 every time I create a new page or will subscriber get email onow anything I create or comment on?

hii nancy cuyle, Your going right on your side but see that you change the permalink settings through Dashboard–>Settings–>Permalinks and check the post name radio button and also see that the apache modules(rewrite_module) is running else it will show the 404 page not found error.
And you did properly i’m talking about the subscribe stuff like creating the subscribe page and adding s2 button for it and you dont need to add s2 button for anything else rather you have any more different subscriptions, your subscribe page will handle all the subscribe stuff.
And if you want to know how permalinks works and how to make them work properly have a look at this……. http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

    Thanks…
