    Hi,

Very new to WordPress (less than 24 hours) with no php, sql or linux-fu.

I have installed WordPress on my web host's server (using cPanel and FTP) and everything seems to be fine except whenever I tick the box under Remote Publishing to enable xml-rpc I get an error page when I click to save the changes. The error says:
You don't have permission to access /hcta/wp-admin/options.php on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Another post recommended setting enable_xml manually in php but making a 0 a 1 and I amazingly managed to do that (I think) but the error remains and when I try and look at xmlrpc.php I get the same 403 and 404 error.

I have no idea what to do, and I really want to use the WordPress iPhone app and I think this is necessary for me to do so.

I'd suspect that your host has some sort of filter (like mod_security) that tries to block anything that looks like a XML-RPC request, and setting the option is triggering that same filter.

You'll need to talk with your hosting provider to find out if this is the case.
