I installed a brand new fresh version of wp on my host provider's server. a sql database is also running. everything looks fine and is working. only when i want to edit a theme manually in the appearance section the following error appears: "Oops, no such file exists! Double check the name and try again, merci."
this happens with the wp standard theme as well as with others i select. also the preview picture of the other themes is not showing up..
what could that be?
I suggest starting by uploading the WP file again. Make sure you are uploading ALL the files, and they are being placed in the correct WordPress folder structures.

i did. all the content of the downloaded zip file. i put it in my htdoc directory. maybe i cant edit the themes thru the admin-browser-interface? need to do it manually with an external editor?
how's the files name who is responsible for the editing process?
all the content of the downloaded zip file. i put it in my htdoc directory.
You did keep the WP folders separate?
within your install folder you should see folders
wp-admin
wp-content
wp-includes
and they should have folders within them

the file "theme-editor.php" exists in its directory. i changed permissions a few time (now i'm on 767) but with no result. i opened the php-file in my editor an i found this:
'<div class="error"><p>'
thats why my error message appears.
how to fix that?

fixed it.
in my providers php settings i marked "dir()".. re-installed wordpress
an it works. All the preview images and the editing mode appears.
explain more elaborate how to fix it, i have same problem.
if this is new installation why not ask your hosting providerto fix..
