• Our site is a WP e-commerce bookstore. The site still works fine for a customer, which is why we haven’t noticed this issue before now. The problem is only in the Admin area.

We updated to WP 3.6.1 on Sept 1. We created a backup of the site before doing so.

Today we tried to make an edit to one of our product listings, but whenever we click on screen the screen darkens and a status bar appears. There is no message, so we don’t know what the status bar is for. Waiting achieves nothing, it just stays the same. We waited an hour. Clicking anywhere on screen again returns the screen to normal, but attempting to edit the text and update simply produces the dark screen/status bar again.

Anyone got any idea what the problem might be?

    Many thanks.

    – Check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

I just checked, and there’s a string of logs relating to a fatal PHP error concerning the WP Printable Invoices plugin from VisserLabs. I’ve deactivated the plugin, but the problem isn’t fixed.

    – Also try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).

-If that does not help, to rule out any theme-specific issue, try switching to the unedited default theme for a moment using the WP dashboard. If you don’t have access to your admin area, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.

    Hi,

Tried both those, and neither fixed the problem
