Bowser, browser version, OS and security programs that you are running would be helpful.
Without that information, all we can do is make guesses.
thanks for replying.

Tried switching to a widgetr-ready theme, the same problem again-can't drag and drop the widgets...
when tried switching to default 1.6 and classic 1.5 theme, got error msg--NO Side Bar defined...
using IE7, windows XP, wordpress 2.2, theme neo-sapein
I'm really in a fix, don't know what to do. pleeeaaaaaaaaase help..
Same here with Subtle theme, where they give a fix... that does not work with me.
I've tried it in Kubuntu, Suse and Windows XP, with Firefox, Konqueror, Swiftfox, Opera and Explorer (if you tell me, I'll try wyth Lynx :p).
My iptables rules are fine, and everything was perfect before upgrading.
I even tried it with all my plugins off.
Hope it can be fixed soon.
1. Disable all your plugins. See if that solves it.
2. Reenable the plugins one by one until you figure out which one is interfering.
Kagarrache: Does the theme you're using contain any javascript code at all? Try switching to the default theme instead, and seeing if it works. This will determine if it's the theme's fault.
Thanks for all the help. finally the issue is solved. re-uploading wp-includes/js folder helped.
new issue, in neo-sapien, though i can drag and drag side widgets, they don't replace the default ones already present there. finally have decided to go for a different theme.
Thank you for your help, Otto, but that's one of those things I tried and didn't work.
I'll try disabling plugins as you mentioned.
I had the very same problem (WP 2.2 [after upgrade], Firefox). I de-activated all plugins and re-activated them one by one. The problem: Scriptaculous. It is now disabled and the drag and drop function is working beautifully.
WordPress 2.1 and up has scriptaculous built into it already. Any theme or plugin with scriptaculous code needs to be modified to be 2.1 and up compatible. Otherwise it will cause all sorts of interference issues.
I'm getting this error on:
php version 4.3.11
fresh upload of freshly downloaded wordpress files with default theme with no plugins installed
wp 2.2
in Firefox 2.0.0.4, using firebug, I see the following errors:
Prototype is not defined: effects.js line 147
class is not defined: dragdrop line 224
$ is not defined widgets.php line 115
Sortable has no properties: widgets.php line 268
Event.observe is not a function: widgets.php line 203
I can't figure out what's going on with this.
This blog was an older version that was upgraded to 2.2
I have 2.2 running on a different server and it works fine there.
Very puzzling - please post if you figure it out.
