[resolved] Can't Copy and Paste URL/Link into Rich Text Editor when creating posts (7 posts)

I am running WP 3.4.2 and recently can no longer copy and paste a link from a browser into the rich text editor when creating a post. When i do paste it in it just pastes a straight text. I am not in the HTML tab and i can not find an option to "paste as text", this happens on multiple PC's, this also happens in Chrome, IE and Firefox so it doesnt sound like a browser issue. It may be a plugin issue but i have deactivated the recent ones and still no luck so maybe its in the DB? I'm guessing now...

I can not find anything on Google so any suggestions with this would be great

The site is http://www.theglobalplaybook.com as well if this may help...

I would use the insert link option and do it that way.. It is not always the smartest move to do this straight into the editor. As a matter of fact, it is almost never a good idea to copy and paste. Just a rule of thumb.

There is nothing wrong with copy and pasting into the editor and changing the text in the HTML code.

But i was more looking for a solution to the problem not a work around

Oh yes there is. You can also paste in all kinds of inline style. In extreme situations, this has been known to bring whole sites to a shuddering halt in some browsers. If you have to copy'n'paste, paste your text into NotePad (or another text editor) first, then copy from NotePad into WordPress.

ok, there is nothing wrong with copying and pasting a link if you check the html code for random attributes. Which almost anyone should when they change the link text..and getting inline styles from a browsers address bar would be a neat trick :)

But i was looking for a solution not a best practice debate..

We're not trying to set forth a general best practice. Both myself & justingreerbbi are trying to provide you with workable solutions for WordPress. There is no "solution" for this. You simply have to use the tools in the right way if you want the right results.
