Can't connect and 404 - major problems installing (6 posts)

    Hi,

    Please help?

    I have downloaded the latest version and was kinda hoping to use it, too... But no can do. At best, I get an "Error establishing a database connection", at worst I get a 404 when trying to access wp-admin.

    I've managed to get rid of an error in the config.php made by a poor editing program (who decided to put >'s in there), but my suspicion is that the latest version of Word is messing it up as well. When trying to save it, it states that the file "may contain features that are not compatible with Plain Text Format". Could this be the culprit? It's the only way I'm able to open and edit the file.

    I truly believe I'm doing this right, too... Download, zip, edit config, rename, save and upload all files. I've been able to try this on two different domains, but it can't be done on either. The same error occurs. The funny thing is that an older version of WP worked just fine on one of these two domains before I deleted it and later tried to replace it with the new one.

    I have checked my passwords, usernames etc with my ISP, and they say that there are no problems with the databases and that my info is correct - and then that I should make sure I do this according to your documentation. I thought I did.

    I'm at my wits end here... Please help me?

    The URLs to where the blogs would be if I could only get this right, are:

    http://www.hjemmemamma.com/blog

    and

    http://www.huldreheim.net/huldremor

    This is part of the huldreheim config-file:

    <?php
    // ** MySQL settings ** //
    define('DB_NAME', 'dbxxxxxx
    '); // The name of the database
    define('DB_USER', 'dbxxxxxx
    '); // Your MySQL username
    define('DB_PASSWORD', 'removed
    '); // ...and password
    define('DB_HOST', 'sql02.fastname.no
    '); // 99% chance you won't need to change this value
    define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');
    define('DB_COLLATE', '');

    Odds on, there is something wrong in your wp-config file. Perhaps email me if you want some help and would like me to take a look at the config for you.

    Hi,
    This is not a reply with help, this is a reply FOR HELP!!!
    I'm having the same problem. I've uploaded the blog files to my site, http://www.foodmonster.net/fmblog. When I go there, this is the message that I get:
    <?php
    /* Short and sweet */
    define('WP_USE_THEMES', true);
    require('./wp-blog-header.php');
    ?>

    What does this mean? Do I need to go into these files and add this information and then re-upload? I found the file "we-blog-header.php" in my wordpress file, but didn't know exactly where in the code to add it, if I'm supposed to add it at all.

    I couldn't find a file that said "Use Themes". I found "themes" files and "User" files, but again, not sure what I'm supposed to be doing here.

    I feel I'm so close, and yet so far away!

    Does anyone know how to help me?
    Thanks,
    P. Jae
