Can't center Twenty Eleven's header image when making it smaller (8 posts)

I kept trying to change the header image and put a 300 pixels*300 pixels square image, but it never wanted to change at the start, I edited the attributes in theme's functions file, then in the style.css I found: #branding img { and I changed it too, this managed finally to change the header, but I can't center it at all.

can anyone tell me how to center the header image when it's smaller? and can I get rid of the remaining white background at both sides? thanks.

P.S: is there going to be any updates to make this process easier and in core WordPress at next few days so I may activate beta tester plugin and get it?

Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues.

For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

Thanks for giving this important note :) I really didn't have to edit any theme before so I have never known about child themes.
now I created the twentyeleven_child directory, and just missing the css rules to put in the child style.css to achieve what I want, which I described above.

can anyone tell me how to center the header image when it's smaller? and can I get rid of the remaining white background at both sides? thanks.

If you just post the domain name, it won't get converted to link by the forum software.

I am also interested in adjusting the header display. I have create a twentyeleven child theme and would appreciate any help. To reiterate, I want to remove the white space above and below the actual header image that is displayed.

    Thank you, jim
