Can't browse for JPG only jpg (6 posts)

This has been terrible trying to search for an answer to this as even searching with quotes doesn't capture capitals.

The issue I am having is when I go to upload an image the browser narrows the formats that I can view (and thus upload) to:
    .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif

My camera saves with a capitol JPG extension and thus the images don't appear. Is there any way to get around this?

My apologies if this has been asked before, but I did search for a solution before posting.

I am currently using Ubuntu as my OS and haven't tried uploading from another OS. This problem has now occurred on a locally hosted WP3 install, and a free host install.

Simply rename your photos with the .jpg extension.

    "Simply" ?
Let's correct the problem, not put a band aid on it.

So the WP upload core scripts should be over-written because you don't want to (or can't) change your image filename extensions?

Different operation systems (and therefore, servers) can present problems when moving between them. For example, Windows is case insensitive. PSPIMAGE, PSPImage, or PspImage are all the same to Windows. However, under UNIX all three would be different files as UNIX file names are case sensitive. One way to deal with this when creating a multi-platform app is to force lowercase extensions.

I know I'm in a minority as a linux user, but all DSLRs currently save photos off in either a raw format or/and with (capital) JPG.
For any professional photographer renaming every photo is just nutty. Even performing a macro on all photos everytime to change the ending would be a huge time waster.

I don't appreciate being talked down to. I find it to be an easier, and longer lasting solution to open up a core file and add .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG to the list of files to allow.
