//message received when I try is

"There doesn't seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn't work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file."

// when I try to create a wp-config.php file through a web interface I get

"Sorry, I can't write to the directory. You'll have to either change the permissions on your WordPress directory or create your wp-config.php manually."

I am on OSX 10.4 using safari/firefox. I am very confused. I moved the files from / to my public .html folder to accesss them with a browser.

please help me.. I will share my cookies with you.

You can always create/edit a wp-config.php file on your computer and upload it to your server.

Thanks, however the problem is that I can't access it. It's there, I can see it, I can't access it though.

Don't get snippy or sarcastic and don't shout - we've seen your new post. Sometimes you don't get instant answers.
What have you tried to resolve it?
Have you uploaded a fresh copy of the contents of your wp-admin folder. It may be as simple as a corrupted file.
Be patient. Someone who has experienced this may come along soon.

As Samboll said. Additionally, make sure you have an uncorrupted wp-l10n.php in the wp-includes folder: the function named in the error message is in that file.

Please excuse my caps Samboll. I wasn't aiming for "snippy or sarcastic", just trying to deter people from wasting their time trying to help me solve what's been sorted. "In english" referred to my jibberish btw - not your jargon.

Additionally, I wasn't sure where to upload everyting to so I put it in my public_html folder - was that correct or will it cause me problems.

According to the error message your WP files are NOT in the public_html (also knows as "root") folder, but a subfolder named "wordpress":
    http://www.kristianthompson.com/wordpress/

What did you upload "additionally" in the public_html folder?

I put the entire wordpress folder into public_html.

    I've re-uploaded both index.php and wp-l10n.php

I am having the same problem the first part. I use local machine. I installed everything fine (after creating the file via browser).

    When I use Opera, It doesn't let me view the site. However, I am able to use admin side. The error is;

"There doesn't seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn't work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file."

But If I use Firefox and IE, I can view the site OK.

Interesting, I solved that problem by finding my MySql information on the site and correcting install.php to correspond - don't get that message anymore.

Unfortunately the problem I'm having now isn't browser specific.

It seems to be cleared now. Maybe it was just pciking from cache. I also re-installed the SW.

Having the same problem here. The odd thing is, I did nothing to the blog other than post for the past few weeks. All of a sudden I went to log in and bam I was hit with the fatal error message.

The message can be viewed here.
    http://www.conservablogs.com/EricOdom/wp-admin/

I've uploaded clean files to overwrite the old ones and it changes nothing. Now I can't post or get anywhere close to the dashboard.

I can't seem to access my blog or the blogs through the http://HBWM.com website. It won't give me my login page either if I try to go directly to my blog anymore to sign in. It gives the following error:

    "Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums."

    I'd appreciate your help! Gloria

    Once again...

Fatal error: Call to undefined function __() in /home/conserv9/public_html/EricOdom/wp-admin/index.php on line 3

I've republished the file and it changes nothing.

    Battle:

    last line on that page:

"Fatal error: Call to undefined function __() in /home/conserv9/public_html/EricOdom/wp-admin/index.php on line 3".

Same error as posted above. Follow previous instructions (especially moshu's). And make sure you upload the files as ASCII, not "Binary" or "Auto".

doodlebee, I've done that. Still nothing.

I'm getting a LOT of traffic still but can't log into my blog. Man this sucks.

I have no idea what to do!
